BLAIR
DOCTOR OF PHARMACY
CO-OP, 2024
Blair was attracted to the Waterloo
School of Pharmacy program because
of its innovative co-op program and
in particular the opportunity to work
with Indigenous Peoples. Blair’s father
is Algonquin First Nations and by
accepting a co-op work term at Moose
Factory Island, Blair learned more
about her Indigenous background
and heritage while working with an
underserved population.
“Everyone deserves affordable, readily
accessible healthcare and continuity
of care," Blair says. “In the future,
I want to work in the North as a
pharmacist to help those most in need.”

"For my final co-op term, I was a
pharmacy student at the National
Association of Pharmacy and
Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) with
the Professional and Regulatory
Affairs (P&R) department. My average
workday consisted of preparing for
national drug schedules meetings
and discussing pressing topics in
the pharmacy profession with other
pharmacy regulatory authorities
and relevant organizations."

8:00 AM I log onto my work laptop and I start
the day by sifting through e-mails and viewing
my calendar for upcoming meetings. I send a
quick hello to my team through our Microsoft
Teams group chat.
8:30 AM I join our daily morning meeting
via video call. This was created to keep the
team engaged, up to date and connected while
working remotely. We chat and catch up, but
also discuss what projects and meetings are
coming up for our team. These meetings are
also an opportunity to ask other team members
their opinions on dicult tasks or overcoming
roadblocks within a current project.
9:00 AM I start delegating my tasks for the day.
Working at NAPRA there are many projects on
the go. Every day I work on dierent tasks based
on the deadline of the project.
9:30 AM I continue working on the tasks
related to reviewing the current submission for
the upcoming National Drug Schedules (NDS)
meeting. I research background information
and review the submissions prior to the
meeting, to prepare notes or relevant materials
that may be beneficial for the National Drug
Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC)
during its deliberations.
1:00 PM Now o to a meeting! After lunch,
I attend a round table meeting with other
pharmacy regulatory authorities and relevant
organizations as we discuss important and
pressing topics in the pharmacy profession.
3:00 PM After a great meeting with great
discussions and an engaging group, it is now
time to complete my debriefing notes. I edit,
clean up and summarize the notes I made
during the meeting.
4:00 PM I end the day with working on
other tasks such as updating the pharmacist
and pharmacy technician scope of practice
charts and providing feedback for a pharmacy
assessment tool. I view my schedule and
prepare for the next day as I log o from
another productive and engaging workday!

CAMPUS LIFE
In September 2022, Waterloo Pharmacy held their
second Women in Pharmacy Leadership panel
event and networking lunch, one of the many
networking events students can participate in.
PharmD 2026 students on their first day of orientation.
The PharmD program starts in January, and students
take classes together as a cohort.
The flex lab is where our students are taught laboratory
skills and practice compounding medications. This is a
course PharmD students get the opportunity to take in
their first year first term of study!
The Professional Practice Lab focuses on a variety
of practical tasks such as the pharmacist expanded
scope, patient counselling and prescription
checking. There are lots of opportunities for
hands-on training during the PharmD program.
The white coat is a symbol of the trust patients place in
medical professionals and the responsibility that those
professionals carry. This is an annual tradition that takes
place each May in our PharmD program.
