Hey Friend!

Yay!! I am so dang glad you are here taking the leap to become a full-time photographer! This is so

exciting! ☺

Let’s start out with what is a print release and what is the difference between a print release and

The exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record

literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same.

Print release :

Gives someone permission to reproduce a photographers images for their own personal use. Personal

use is the key term here.

Overview:

Ultimately a copyright is owned by the individual who creates the work of art. Every image that you

capture is owned by you unless you decide to sign the rights away to another individual. It gives that

individual the exclusive right to decide how the image should be used, displayed, altered, etc.

Your copyright and print release needs to be set up for personal use only. This way our clients can print

the images; however, they cannot use the images for commercial use unless otherwise discussed.

With a print release your client can print as many images as they want, share the images on social media,

share with friends and family, etc.

Your clients cannot edit the images or use the images for commercial gain. The images are for personal

use only.

To start, here are some general tips for creating a print release.

• Make it your own.

o If you don’t like the way it looks, reads, or really anything about it, then change it. This is

a template, a guide, treat it as a resource. Feel free to change it up and really make it

your own.

• Use your branding.

o When you present it to your customers, you want it to scream your business. What’s this

mean? Use your photos, your logo, your colors, this is your branding.

• If your pricing / packages include a print release, make sure you send your print release after

your client signs the contract.

• Anything in red on the template below needs to be customized by you

The above-named Photographer (hereinafter “Photographer”) hereby warrants being the legal copyright owner in the Work

described below:

Photography Session/s: Enter Type of work – for example ‘Wedding Photos’, ‘portrait photos’, ‘family

portraits, date; etc

Photographer hereby grants permission to ___________Customer Name_______________ and his/her/their/its (‘hereinafter

“Grantee”) Photo Laboratory of choice to make reproductions of the Work from the Photography Session/s described above in any

size or quantity for the following use(s):

Personal use only

Grantee understands and acknowledges that Photographer is the copyright owner and that any unauthorized use and/or sale of the

above described work causes damage to Photographer and that Grantee may be held liable for such damages.

This permission is for personal use only. It does not include use that results in financial gain. The purchase of the digital files releases

the photographer from any liability due to loss of or damage to the images, and also releases the Photographer from any obligation to

maintain copies of any digital files. Grantee hereby grants Photographer the right to use and publish images and photographs taken

during the photography session/s described above to further promote its service. Photographer may revoke this permission at any

time and for any reason. Photographer retains all copyrights to the images and derivative works thereof.

If you are posting any of the digital files to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram* etc.) you may not alter the image in

any way such as adding filters, re-editing the photos, etc. You must also give credit to Photographer.

By using any of these images you are agreeing to the above terms.
