LIST OF DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR SURRENDER CERTIFICATE

A Surrender Certificate application form duly filled in and signed (available on VFS website
https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html )
In case renunciation is applicable for your case a Renunciation application form
(https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce) will also need to be duly filled and signed with a third party
witness and their Passport copy.

Two photographs conforming to Indian Government norms as per specifications mentioned on our website
Please note photographs available in photo booths in France are not compatible with Indian norms
Photos should be glued to the form
A photo service complying to the Indian norms is available in all of our offices

Original Indian passport and a copy of the same (first, last and endorsed pages)

A copy of your current passport (data page only)

A detailed/Short version of “Certificat de nationalité” and/or “Declaration de nationalité”
Please note that the above certificate must be apostilled (local cours d’appel) and then translated by a sworn translator
(Traducteur Assermenté)

Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and
Surrender of Indian Passport
Indian Citizenship Act does not provide for dual
citizenship, therefore it is mandatory for all Indian
passport holders to surrender their last Indian passport
to the Embassy immediately after acquisition of
foreign nationality.
The Embassy will not be in a position to render
services like OCI, Visa etc. until Renunciation of
Citizen is submitted.

Those who have acquired foreign nationality after

1. Apply for Renunciation online on the Ministry of
Home Affairs (Foreigners Division)

2. Click on “Declaration of Renunciation of
Citizenship under Section 8 of the Act Made by a
Citizen of India” (who is now also a Citizen or
National of another country)

Documents to be uploaded on MHA
Portal
1. Indian Passports including expired one (Please
upload both front and back page of the passport)
2. Address proof in France (utility bill, bank
passbook, extract from municipality etc.)
How to apply to VFS
1. Take a print out of the online filled application for
Renunciation of Citizenship and Surrender of
passport
2. Take an appointment at VFS

4. Attach a copy of the payment receipt if paid online

Payment of fees
1. Applicants have a choice to pay Fees at MHA
website or offline at VFS during submission time.
2. In case fee has been paid online on MHA website,
receipt of the payment may be submitted to VFS.
2. Mandatory ICWF=2€ and applicable VFS service
+ optional fees to be paid while submitting forms at
VFS.
Important Note
If application is found erroneous after review by
VFS/Embassy of India then no change is possible.
Therefore a new application form with correct details
and new payment proof corresponding to the new
application reference number
is required.
Hence, applicants are advised to fill up application
carefully as NO refund is possible for submission
of form with incorrect details.
Processing Time
60 to 90 days for Renunciation of Citizenship
applied on MHA portal application.
Surrender Certificate will be issued after process of
Renunciation of Citizenship is complete.
Note: In case of lost / misplaced Renunciation, certificates please send an email to
oci.paris@mea.gov.in or cons.pari[email protected].in;
