Certification of Registered Translator/Interpreter
(Government Code Section 27293)
Documents presented for recording containing a foreign language, in whole or in part, shall not be
accepted for recording unless it has been translated into English by a certified or registered court
interpreter, as described in section 68561, or by an accredited translator registered with the
American Translators Association.
Step 1 – Translator/Interpreter Declaration Process
•
Locate a translator/interpreter, visit the American Translator Association online at atanet.org
or the California Court Interpreter online at courtinfo.ca.gov to complete the following:
1)
Translate the foreign language into English
2)
Complete the Translator/Interpreter Declaration, see attached.
Step 2 – The County Clerk Certification of Registered Translator/Interpreter Process – Certification
fee applies per document*
• Submit the following in person or by mail with fee to the Orange County Clerk-Recorder,
County Administration South, 601 N. Ross Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701:
1) Original document in the foreign language
2) Original document translated into English
3) Original, completed Translator/Interpreter Declaration
Step 3 – Recordation Process – Recording fees apply*
• Submit the original recordable document with the following in person, or by mail to the
Orange County Clerk-Recorder, County Administration South, 601 N. Ross Street, Santa Ana,
CA 92701:
1) All original documents identified in step 2 above
2) The County Clerk Certification of Registered Translator/Interpreter
