2) UNC affiliates must be enrolled in GeoBlue to purchase coverage for non-affiliated spouses
and children. For example, if you are offered health insurance coverage as a UNC student
but the policy does not include your spouse or children, your family would only be eligible
for GeoBlue coverage if you enrolled in the GeoBlue policy as well.
3) For those in J status, UNC’s policy with GeoBlue meets and exceeds the U.S. Department of
State’s requirements. Please contact your international student or scholar advisor for more
information regarding the insurance requirement for J-1/J-2 exchange visitors.
4) UNC’s GeoBlue policy includes coverage for “repatriation and evacuation”. Additionally,
GeoBlue offers stand-alone coverage for repatriation and evacuation if your medical
insurance coverage that does not include repatriation and evacuation (for example, the
State Health Plans of North Carolina offered to UNC employees does not include
repatriation and evacuation coverage). To enroll in stand-alone repatriation and evacuation
please email the University’s Risk Management Specialist, Janet Hoernke at:
