HEAD COACH GAIL MANN
N AZARETH WOMEN’S SOCCER
3
Gail Mann, Head Coach Returning for her 10th season as head coach of the
Golden Flyers women's soccer team, Gail Mann is by far the Golden Flyers most successful women's
soccer coach ever -- in terms of victories, post-season success, and longevity.
Last season marked the Golden Flyers' seventh straight season of double-digit victories.
The Golden Flyers also won the Empire 8 Conference title for the third year in a row and
received their fifth straight invitation to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Those milestones came just two seasons after the Golden Flyers set a school record with
17 victories, won the NCAA's New York Regional, and advanced to the national quarterfinals.
Mann has been at the driving force behind all of the Golden Flyers' foremost achievements since
taking over as coach in 1993. In just her second season, the Golden Flyers finished 9-8-2
and reached the NYSWCAA tournament. In 1996, Mann guided the Golden Flyers to a record
of 16-6-1, and landed berths in the NYSWCAA and ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournaments.
The progression continued in 1997 as Nazareth completed the regular season unbeaten at 15-0-2 and then scored a triple overtime win over
Oneonta in its first-ever NCAA tournament game. Mann was recognized as NCAA Division III Coach of the Year for the New York region. Nazareth
followed that with a 15-4 record in 1998 and then a 17-3 showing in 1999.
Mann's overall record is 114-47-11 for a .695 winning percentage, including 101-27-8 (.750) over the last seven seasons. She was named
NYSWCAA Coach of the Year in 1996 and New York Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 1997.
Over the last seven years, Mann has had 27 NYSWCAA All-Star selections, 21 Northeast Region All-Star selections, and three All-Americans
(Melanie Northrup in 1997 and 1999 and Jaime Snyder last year).
A native of Rochester, Mann came to Nazareth in 1993 after five seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY Brockport. She has also coached in
the Empire State Games and is active in the area's Olympic Development Program.
Mann, 37, is a graduate of Spencerport High School, where she excelled in soccer, basketball, and softball. She played soccer at Cortland State
and was a starting striker on the 1986 team that reached the Division III Final Four. At Nazareth, in addition to coaching soccer, Mann is an
assistant coach for the Golden Flyers' women's lacrosse team, which has reached the NCAA tournament twice over the last three seasons.

Cindy Stubbe, Assistant Coach Returning for her 10th season as an assistant coach for the
Golden Flyers, Cindy Stubbe has teamed with head coach Gail Mann in helping Nazareth flourish in women's soccer.
Stubbe tenure has coincided with the best seasons in Nazareth's history. That includes seven straight seasons of double
digit wins and five straight appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament.
Stubbe credentials include a four-year playing career at Division I Adelphi University, where she finished as one of
the school's all-time leading scorers. A native of Rochester, Stubbe was a three-time Monroe County League All-Star
at Greece Arcadia and was a high school All-American there in 1982.
Stubbe has a degree in psychology and works as a teacher at Monroe Middle School.
Billy Stojanovski, Assistant Coach Billy Stojanovski joined the Nazareth coaching staff in 2000
and has guided the Golden Flyers to a pair of NCAA tournament berths.
A native of Rochester, Stojanovski played three seasons of soccer at Division I University of Buffalo as a goalkeeper
and still ranks among the all-time leaders in saves and goals-against average. He graduated from Buffalo with
a degree in mechanical engineering and has worked at Xerox since 1994.
Before coming to Nazareth, Stojanovski was an assistant coach at RIT for three seasons. He also has coached the
Rochester Junior Rhinos since 1998 and helped direct them to a state title in 1999. His coaching experience also includes
a stint with Buffalo Germania from 1994-97 and involvement with the Rochester District Olympic Development program.
Stojanovski resides in Rochester with his wife, Cheryl, whom he married last year.

Team Finishes 12-5-1, Jaime Snyder Earns All-America Honors
Golden Flyers Win Empire8,
Reach NCAAs Again.
The 2001 women's soccer season at Nazareth seemed remarkably similar to the
four seasons that preceded it.
That's probably because the Golden Flyers were redundantly successful in capturing the
Empire 8 Conference championship for the third year in a row and were invited to compete
in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth straight season.
"We reached our goal by winning the (Empire 8) conference title again," said Nazareth
Coach Gail Mann, who completed her ninth season. "Once we did that, we had to revise
our goals for post-season play."
Nazareth finished 12-5-1 overall, including a perfect 7-0 in conference play. In the NCAAs,
the Golden Flyers avenged a regular-season defeat by beating Rochester 2-1 in the opening
round. Their season ended with a 3-2 loss to Union in the New York Region semifinals.
Nazareth's season opened in fine fashion as the Golden Flyers scored a pair of one-goal
victories in Ohio – over Denison and Ohio Wesleyan respectively. The 2-1 win over OWU
was especially noteworthy in that it was the only loss the Battling Bishops suffered all
season en route to winning the national championship.
Nazareth stumbled in a 2-0 non-conference loss at Brockport, then rebounded for solid wins over Elmira, Cortland, and Keuka
before settling for a 2-2 tie at St. Lawrence.
The Golden Flyers dropped non-conference games to Rochester, William Smith, and Union, but ran the table in the Empire 8
by defeating St. John Fisher, Utica, Alfred, Ithaca, RIT, and Hartwick.
The Ithaca game was particularly provocative in that it wasn't decided until Casey Corcoran scored for Nazareth in the 103rd
minute for a 1-0 win.
Against Rochester in the NCAAs on Halloween, Nazareth got unassisted scores from Shannon Rene and Jaime Snyder (pictured)
and held the visitors scoreless until the game's final minute in a 2-1 victory.
In the next round, played at William Smith,
Nazareth fell behind 2-0 in the first half against
Union and never recovered.
Stephanie Nardini scored both Nazareth goals,
but the Golden Flyers' season ended with a 3-2 defeat.
Post-season honors poured in, most notably for Snyder, who was named Empire 8 Player of the Year and earned All-America honors
(third team) from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Corcoran, Nardini, and defender Heidi Brown joined Snyder as first-team all-conference selections. Goalie Kim French, defender
Lisa Ksczanowicz, and midfielder Sarah McGowen were second-team choices.
"We reached our goal by winning
the (Empire 8) conference title again."

Nazareth gears-up for another run at Empire 8 title,
return trip to NCAA Tournament
Golden Flyers Reload for 2002.
The pre-season workout schedule for the Nazareth women's
soccer team was filled with the usual assortment of
anticipation and challenges.
For Nazareth coach Gail Mann, containing her excitement was
as much a part of the pre-season as throw-ins and corner kicks.
"I'm excited because I think this is the deepest team we've ever
had," said Mann, who brings a career record of 114-47-11 into
her 10th season with the Golden Flyers. "Injuries have hindered
our post-season progress in the past. Now I'm hoping that we
have enough depth to cover any problems we might encounter.
Everyone on our roster can play."
The guarded optimism did little to alter the team's goals as the
Golden Flyers will shoot for a fourth straight Empire 8 Conference
title and a sixth straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
"That's our goal every year," Mann said."We're a very seasoned
team now, so we'll count on the leadership of our upperclassmen
to stay focused and keep us prepared for every game."
Here's a look at the
Golden Flyers by position:
Defense
Mann hopes that the Golden Flyers
can improve upon the 1.19 goals
per game that the team yielded
last season.
Senior Heidi Brown, a regional All-Star,
returns as the starting sweeper, while
junior Lisa Ksczanowicz, a second-
team all-conference selection, is expected to be fully recovered
from off-season knee surgery. Senior Amie Collins and sophomores
Erin McConnell and Erin Zillioux all played regularly in 2001 and
will be challenged by sophomores Jenna Atchinson and Kieran
Campbell and freshmen Meagan Clark and Kathryn Ferguson.
Midfield
Senior Stephanie Nardini (11 goals last season) is a three-time
Empire 8 Conference All-Star and is back to anchor the middle
of the field. The midfield will likely be bolstered by the addition
of transfers Darrah Graziano and Laura Mallia. Graziano, a junior,
earned junior college All-American honors at Monroe Community
College last season, while Mallia, a sophomore, took the year off after
starting every game of the 2000 season at Division I West Virginia.
Seniors Arianne Henion, Jill Ranous and Shannon Rene and
junior Kristen Lempicki are experienced players who should
see considerable playing time.
Other newcomers are freshmen Randi Hughes and Ashley Thayer.
Forwards
Seniors Jaime Snyder and Casey
Corcoran return to form a formidable
offensive tandem. Snyder owns several
school records and last season
earned All-America honors from the
National Soccer Coaches Association
of America after scoring 11 goals and
adding 12 assists. Corcoran earned
all-conference and all-region honors
after contributing 10 goals.
Rene, a versatile player with a knack for scoring, could also see
playing time here along with sophomores Beth Berger and Leigh
Vainio, each coming off strong rookie seasons. Also is the mix
is junior Kala Caster, a junior college All-American at Monroe
Community College in 2001.
Goalkeepers
Junior Candace Hatcher is expected to inherit the starting job
left vacant by the graduation of two-year standout Kim French.
Hatcher gained valuable experience in place of an injured French
in last year's NCAA Tournament and "proved that she is ready to
step in," Mann said. Freshmen Jessica Cardot will be the backup.

About Nazareth College
Nazareth College is a private,
co-educational college with a liberal
arts and sciences core. Founded in
1924 by the Sisters of St. Joseph,
Nazareth has been independent
for more than 30 years.
Nazareth’s Athletic Mission and Philosophy
The Nazareth College Athletic Department will strive to empower its student-
athletes to grow as people and make a positive impact on society, with life-skills
development, mentoring, and leadership opportunities through competitive
and cooperative experiences.
The Athletic Department is committed to assisting in the college’s mission
of educating students with a goal of fostering lifelong commitment to intellectual,
ethical and aesthetic values. The Athletic Department will operate under
firm institutional control of the college and will always place the health
and welfare of the student-athletes, coaches and staff first in decisions
regarding the athletics program.
The department will operate under the NCAA Division III philosophy,
through which academics are the student’s first priority and sportsmanship,
fair play, diversity and ethical conduct are constantly taught and promoted.
Campus Expansion
In 2000, Nazareth contracted to purchase 73 acres of property and buildings
adjacent to the current campus from the college's founders, the Sisters of
St. Joseph. This opportunity doubles the size of the campus and will enable
the college to shape its future in ways previously unimaginable.
A three-phase master plan that will be implemented over the next five to seven
years will integrate the existing campus with the newly acquired property into
one seamless and architecturally consistent landscape. New academic programs,
including a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, a four-year Bachelor of Science
in Nursing program, and Information Technology, will soon be joined by new
athletic programs in cross country, equestrian, softball, and track and field.
Undergraduate enrollment is projected to reach 2,000 students, plus 1,200
graduate students by 2005.
