What does United Way do?
We mobilize people a
nd resources to improve lives,
strengthen the community and advance equity for all.
Rather than focusing on a single agency or issue, we
invest in a vetted portfolio of programs and initiatives
that work hand-in-hand to create solutions to many of
our community’s most difficult problems—problems
that no single organization can solve on its own. As a
funder, partner and convener, we work with the entire
community to build resources, focus investments and
foster partnerships that create lasting solutions to major
issues.
Who are your partners?
Anybody who wants to make a difference in our
community. Donors, volunteers, companies,
foundations, faith communities and schools. In
September 2023, we will announce a new slate of
funded partners.
How does United Way distribute funds?
Staff and volunteers team up to review applications,
measure the effectiveness of programs, and gauge
their ability to meet our strategic goals. Funding
decisions regarding programs and initiatives
supported by United Way of Greenville County are
approved by our Board of Directors.
How can an organization apply for United Way funding?
In May 2023, we released a new Request for
Proposals with application details, and any tax-
exempt, nonprofit organization that conducts health
or human service programs in Greenville County
can apply. We update our website regularly with
opportunities for funding, and that is always the
best place to check for up-to-date information.
Can I designate my gift directly to a specific agency?
Yes, but undesignated gifts enable us to invest
our resources in areas that align with our strategic
priorities—informed by our extensive research
and expertise—to make the greatest impact within
Greenville County. Full details on our current
Designations Policy can be found online at
unitedwaygc.org/designations-policy.
