Walk with the animals
Description:
The Calgary Zoo is Canada’s second largest zoo
and is home to more than 1,000 animals. There are
nine destination areas including Africa, Eurasia,
Australia and the Prehistoric Park. You can watch
animals in the large realistic habitat spaces that
fill much of the Zoo’s 159 hectares. The Zoo is
an accredited member of several prestigious
international zoological societies and includes a
centre for conservation research. It supports a
variety of conservation and ecological research
projects and offers interpretive workshops where
you can learn all about them.
Worth noting:
The Zoolights festival during the winter is one
of the largest seasonal light shows in Western
Canada and features over three million lights.
Directions:
Start at the Eau Claire Trans Canada Trail Pavilion.
Travel east along the Bow River pathway (with
the Bow River on your left) and walk past two
bridges. When you come to the third one – the Old
Langevin Bridge – it’s time to cross the river. Once
across, continue traveling east along the pathway.
You will pass by one more bridge and walk
under yet another one. Shortly after you pass the
Bridgeland/Memorial CTrain Station it will be time
to cross the river once again at the Baines Bridge.
Continue south on Zoo Road N.E. until you reach
the west entrance of the Calgary Zoo.
