Clinical Laboratory Technologist-Newborn Screening

Job Description: Come join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the Newborn Screening Unit of the
Public Health Central Laboratory in Decatur, Office of Protection and Safety.
Under general supervision, the position will perform a wide range of laboratory tests defined as high complexity by
the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) in order to obtain data for use in medical diagnosis
and treatment. The position will also analyze specimens and validates quality control, interpret and record testing
results, and report findings to designated personnel. May act as a lead worker or supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related science field AND Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory and Certification as
a medical technologist, MT (ASCP), or equivalent certification that meets the personnel qualification requirements
pertaining to "technologists" specified in the Department of Human Resources rules for licensure of clinical
laboratories.
Note: Clinical Laboratory Technologists assigned full-time pre-analytical (for example, central accessioning or media
preparation) OR post-analytical (for example, reports and cleanup) duties are NOT required to meet state and federal
(CLIA '88) laboratory licensure requirements for technologists/testing personnel, but must meet all other minimum
qualifications (as stated above) AND have an additional year of laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be give to applicants who, in addition to meeting the above requirements, possess the following:
B.S. or MS. In Medical Technology or Biology with current certification as an MT.
Five years experience in a Clinical Laboratory.
Two-Five years experience in Public Health Laboratory setting.
