SAN DIEGO CITY COLLEGE ASSOCIATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS 2019-2020
Associate Degrees require completion of 60 or more degree-applicable units of college courses, with at least 12 semester units to
betaken in residence at the college granting the degree. Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) and AA-T/AS-T degrees require completion of 60
or more transferable units. A GPA of 2.0 is required in the curriculum upon which the degree is based, which includes general education
requirements, SDCCD District requirements, electives (if applicable), and major requirements from the San Diego City College catalog. All
courses required for the major must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better and 6 units in the major must be completed at SDCCD.
Only one course in a student’s major discipline may be used to meet SDCCD’s General Education requirements, with the exception of LAS
and AA-T/AS-T degrees.

Requirements. Students following General Education Option 4 (LAS majors only) are not required to complete American Institutions, Health

Health Education: Completion of Health 101.
NOTE: This requirement is waived for students who earn degrees in Nursing Education and Physical Therapy Assistant, or are graduates of a
certified paramedic training program. U. S. Veterans and active duty U.S. military personnel may be granted two units of college credit to
fulfill the Health Education requirement if service has been continuous for at least six months. Copies of form DD-214 or DD-295 or Joint
Services Transcript (JST) or CCAF Transcript covering all periods of military service must be on file in the Records Office.
Exercise Science/Dance: Completion of two Exercise Science (numbered below EXSC 240) and/or Dance (except DANC 127,
181, 183, 253) activity courses. Students with physical conditions which prevent participation in regular exercise science
activity classes must file a physician’s statement with the College Evaluations Office. Adapted Exercise Science classes are
available. A Physician’s medical release form is required.
NOTE: This requirement is waived for students who possess an accredited Fire Fighter I certification or are graduates of a POST Commission
certified regional law enforcement academy. U. S. Veterans and active duty U.S. military personnel may be granted two units of college
credit to fulfill the Exercise Science (formerly Physical Education) requirement if service has been continuous for at least six months. Copies
of form DD-214 or DD-295 or Joint Services Transcript (JST) or CCAF Transcript covering all periods of military service must be on file in the
Records Office.
Multicultural Studies: Complete one course with a carat (^).
Competency in Reading and Written Expression: Complete one course from General Education English
