Nothing Is Better
Than
Being a
Javelina!
We Are Family!
The Texas A&M-Kingsville
football team ended its spring
schedule last weekend, hosting
Texas-Permian Basin in Javelina
Stadium.
The Javelinas dropped a 17-2
decision to the Eagles, who
improved to 4-0 for the spring.
The Javelinas had 200 total
yards, 108 rushing and 92 passing.
UTPB had 349 total yards, 57
rushing and 292 passing.
Christian Anderson, 5-10, 205-
pound sophomore running back
from Cypress (Cypress Falls), led
the Javelina rushing with 67 yards
and a 3.5 per-carry average.
Amonte Bowen, 5-10, 210-
pound sophomore running back
from Donna, had 50 yards and a
5.6 per-carry average.
Quarterback Zadock
Dinkelmann, 6-6, 230-pound
sophomore from Somerset,
completed 11 of 24 passes for 74
yards.
Ryan Martinez, 5-9, 160-
pound junior wide receiver from
Kingsville (King), had four
receptions for 14 yards and Kevin
Reynolds, 6-1, 205-pound senior
wideout from Houston
(Brookshire), had three catches for
30 yards.
Cameron Cauthen, 6-1, 200-
pound sophomore defensive back
from Mont Belvieu (Barbers Hill),
and Korey Louis, 6-2, 220-pound
senior linebacker from Breaux
Bridge, La., each had nine tackles.
Two of Louis’ tackles were for
losses.
Isaiah Jacobs, 6-4, 215-pound
sophomore defensive back from
Buda (Hays), and Derrion Warner,
Football Concludes Spring Football
5-11, 195-pound junior defensive
back from Lilburn, Ga., each had
an interception.
The Javelinas won’t return to
the field for competition until Sept.
4 when they meet Saginaw Valley
(Mich.) in Saginaw.
HOW GOOD IT was to have a home football game last
weekend.
It was the first time since November of 2019 that there had
been a Javelina contest in Javelina Stadium.
The weather was perfect, the crowd enthusiastic, there were
cheerleaders and the Sapphires and a delegation from the Javelina
Marching Band playing “Jalisco”.
A win would have been nice but those will come.
No matter what the results, it proved a good day for college
football in South Texas.
THANK YOU AMERICAN Volleyball Coaches Association!
The AVCA announced Monday that it will host an NCAA
Division II women’s indoor volleyball national tournament April 14-
17 in the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas.
Thanks to partnership with the Dallas Sports Commission and
Austin Juniors Volleyball, the AVCA will provide a championship
experience for Division II athletes after the cancellation of the
NCAA Division II national championship.
FloSports will stream the tournament on its FloVolleyball
platform.
All Division II programs are eligible for the tournament and
teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The field
will be 24 teams and all participants will be guaranteed three
matches.
Multiple matches can be played at the same time .
Pool play begins April 14 and the champion will be determined
April 17.
The AVCA has been very good about hosting national events
for Division II.
It sponsors a Division II national beach championship, which
the Javelinas won in 2018 and were national runersup in 2019.
The NCAA sponsors one beach national championship and it
includes Division I, II and III.
Unfortunately, the indoor tournament and the beach
championship are at the same time and the Javelinas are in the
beach meet. Six members of the Javelina volleyball program are on
the indoor and beach teams.
Tanya Allen is head coach of both teams and Gary Payne is an
assistant for each of the squads.
While adding the NCAA Division II indoor championship, the
AVCA also announced Monday that it will hold a Division III beach
championship this spring. It should have scheduled the indoor
volleyball and beach volleyball playoffs on different dates. But very
few of the Division II schools have beach and thus the organization
probably didn’t consider the conflicting dates a concern for most of
the schools.
The Division II beach championships are April 16-18 in
Tavares, Fla.

Former Javelina quarterback
Richard Ritchie was in the stands
for the Javelina football game
Saturday in Javelina Stadium.
Ritchie and quarterback Karl
Douglas were two of the most
successful quarterbacks in college
football history when they played
within the same decade for the
Javelinas. Ritchie (1973-76)
quarterbacked teams that won
three national championships and
went 39-0. Douglas (1967-70) was
quarterback for two teams that won
national titles, another that was
national runnerup and squads that
compiled a 41-4 record.

SO MUCH FOR the NCAA seedings.
In the eight NCAA Division II regional championship men’s
basketball games last week, only three of the top seeds advanced
into the national quarterfinals.
Lone Star Conference champion West Texas A&M, Truman

and Belmont Abbey (N.C.) were winners.
The other five are No. 2 seeds Daemen (N.Y.), Lander (S.C.)
and Drury (Mo.) and No. 4 seeds Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Central
Missouri.
Javelina fans had already questioned the NCAA seeds and
selections when the Javelina men, with a 15-3 record and LSC
South Division champions, didn’t make the regional playoffs.
THE LONE STAR Conference has teams in the NCAA
Division II men’s and women’s Elite Eight.
West Texas A&M is in the men’s bracket and Lubbock
Christian is in the women’s bracket.
Both are considered strong contenders for national titles.
