What is Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC)?
The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Wyoming is an educational program designed
to give men and women the opportunity to become an active duty Air/Space Force officer while completing a Bachelor’s
degree. The Air Force ROTC program will prepare you to assume positions of increasing responsibility and importance in
the modern Air/Space Force.
Program Overview
AFROTC is a 4-year program (Can be 3 years). The first 2 years allow you to “try out” Air Force ROTC without incurring
any obligation, unless on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. As you attend class, you will learn more about the Air Force and
the historical development of airpower. The last 2 years, called the Professional Officer Course, is where you’ll practice
your leadership and supervisory skills. The junior and senior level courses also cover tools and techniques of leadership as
well as explore national defense policy and strategy.
Qualifications required:
Be a United States citizen
Be medically and physically qualified
Maintain minimum academic requirements (2.0 CGPA)
Be of good moral character
Attend both Aerospace Studies classes and leadership laboratory
What does a cadet do:
Minimum mandatory requirements per week: (5-7 hours)
75 min class (First 2 years); 3 hour class (Second 2 years)
2 hours of leadership laboratory (Wednesday)
2 hours of physical training
Non-mandatory activities:
Color Guard, Flight training time, community volunteer participation, etc.

Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis, to high school seniors. Scholarships are awarded in many majors.

College Students
Air Force ROTC offers scholarships to cadets on a competitive basis. Selections are based on overall grade-point average
(minimum 3.0 GPA), physical fitness, and leadership potential.
UW Admissions

Air Force ROTC
Most scholarships pay full college tuition and fees, $600 for textbooks, plus a $300-$500 monthly nontaxable allowance
during the school year.
How to enroll
Air Force ROTC classes and credit information are listed in the University catalog.
The classes are: AIR 1010 and 1020, AIR 2010 and 2020, AIR 3010 and 3020, AIR 4010 and 4020. You will also
need to sign up for Leadership Lab. You can enroll for these classes just as you would for any other campus course.
You will also need to fill out an application package which you can find at the UW AFROTC website or by going to
www.afrotc.com and clicking “Get Started.”

The first year is really to see if a person wants to be in the Air/Space Force
A student is NOT in the active duty Air/Space Force until they graduate
Additional information upon graduation:
After graduating from college and completing all Air Force ROTC requirements, you will commission as a Second
Lieutenant in the Air Force. Non-flying officers serve 4 years, Combat System Operators, Air Battle Managers, and
Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilots serve 6 years, and pilots serve 10 years on active duty.
